2 Excellent Places To Hide Your Spare House Key

Posted on

If you have decided that you never want to find yourself in the position of being locked outside without a way to get back into your home, then you want to make sure that you are checking out the following tips.

In The Flower Pot Soil

Instead of simply taping your spare key to the bottom of the flower pot, where it can be easily noticed should someone pick it up or becomes knocked over in a storm, you will want to put your spare key in the soil. This is an unlikely spot for criminals to look, as they might never consider it and they do not want to attract attention to themselves from the neighbors or people walking down the street. Simply make sure that you are placing your spare single key in a sealed sandwich or snack bag in order to protect it from rusting from exposure to moisture. Dig a little hole into the soil and place your key in there. Make sure that the hole is deep enough so that it can be covered with plenty of soil. You will then want to place a little decorative rock or gem over the spot where the key resides. This way, when you need to retrieve it, you will not have to empty out the entire pot of soil.

Under A Patio Or Stepping Stone

If you have a patio or walkway made of individual stepping stones, then you might want to think about using one of them as a hiding place for a spare house key. You will want to first make sure that the single spare key is placed in a plastic sandwich bag that you can seal so that the key will not be exposed to moisture, as the moisture can cause the key to become rusted. Once you have done that, you can lift a stepping or patio stone and place the spare key under it. If you have a lot of stones, you might find it hard to remember which stone is hiding your spare key, especially if it is a long time before you need to retrieve the key. Therefore, you might consider placing a decoration or a special rock near the stone that is hiding your spare house key.

With those two ideas in mind, you should never have to worry about being locked out of your house again.
